She held your camera, you held my gaze She caught me staring at your well-made frame But she was sleeping the first time we kissed The scent of heather on your wind-cracked lips So you left her You took me home Made room for my suits and boots beside your own Then years of footprints intertwined You strode ahead and I walked behind So much time... Now I can cry above or die below Now I know It's the hardest of blows But now I'm walking on alone 'cos you're gone But life goes on Absence and silence Absence and silence I remember We were here before Three easy days in April '84 Made edgy love with stifled cries Between this valley and the uphill climb Then wrapped in silence, you and I In hope that time would pass us by But it goes too soon, it goes too fast We get a foothold but it never lasts Precious time... Now I can cry above or die below Now I know It's the hardest of blows But now I'm walking on alone 'cos you're gone But life goes on So cry above or die below Now I know It's the hardest of blows But now I'm walking on alone 'cos you're gone But life goes on In the maps where I can read you In the suits where I adored you All the good and bad I gave you In the end it couldn't save you In the view laid out before me In the photographs behind me In the space you left beside me Every trace of you reminds me Put one foot before the other Just to stop me going under 'cos I know how much you loved me So I have to keep on walking Oh I have to keep on walking Yeah I have to keep on walking Oh I have to keep on walking

This is the truth Or as close at it gets I was in love, she was all I could want But that's not how it ends Oh when I would rest My head on her breast I won't deny, she could tempt me to life With the slightest caress I was the same somehow As I am now But love doesn't check It only connects Selecting its prey Then it pulls them away By the scruff of the neck No way the same future For her and I Not once I'd met his eye One to her heart with each word I said Out of her arms and into his bed I found something more at her expense But now I've laid it to rest Save for the day that I left There was no way I could spare her that pain That's my only regret Hard to handle Hard to forget By the scruff of the neck
3.
The Sleeper 04:05
She pushed him away After he'd struggled to explain She couldn't bear his touch again She couldn't relate Her memory of his embrace To this creature in his place She thought she might pray But asking for answers With none to be found Her pleas tumbled down to the ground She can't be saved As he kicks all the props away Like a sleeper who's broken cover There's a man who would be his lover Strange how love can change But what can she say As he walks away She cradles her rage Learns to stand it Tries to face All the questions in his wake As day follows day And item by item She goes through their lives And wonders when he touched her Was it real or just a lie? Was her love just a place to hide? Like a sleeper who's broken cover There's a man who would be his lover Strange how love can change But what can she say? He woke up and it dragged her under She can stand it or let it drown her Strange Her choice is made She won't run away Though her world's falling down She won't run away Though there's fear all around She'll face it 'til it fades away She won't run away Though her world's falling down She won't run away Though there's fear all around She's gonna face it 'til it's faded away One day She won't run away She won't run away

You hold my hand Somehow you understand And brush aside All of my transgressions Where our needs divide There are no secrets So there's no lies Yet I'm forgiven You take my sins and you give me heaven Precious your love to me Here, heaven is here Why won't it do for me? Here, heaven is here Don't let them pull me All the way down Below, below When I know It's here Heaven is here I am defined By desires I can't confine To you and I But I've come to recognise This is the truth Of who I am My faithful heart In my faithless hands Yet I'm forgiven You take my sins and you give me heaven Precious your love to me Here, heaven is here Why won't it do for me? Here, heaven is here Don't let them pull me All the way down Below, below When I know It's here You love me completely You throw your arms around me I am not, I am not Never will be worthy But somehow you redeem me Even with my hands unclean You come close enough just to touch me It's here Heaven is here Say that you love me Heaven is here No way you can save me Heaven is here 'cos I know I gotta go All the way down To find out It's here Heaven is here
